What's inside: how we count and what we don't promise
Contents
I build StepForge on my own, and I want you to know up front what is actually inside the apps and the site. This isn't marketing copy: below is only what exists, and what doesn't.
Ads, purchases, accounts
| App | Ads and purchases | Account |
|---|---|---|
| Wayfare | No ads and no purchases | Anonymous, via a random ID from the device |
| Trailforge | Ads only if you choose to watch them, purchases through Google Play | Anonymous; takes steps from your StepForge account |
| GridCraft | Has ads and purchases: "Ad Tickets" packs and subscriptions (through Google Play on Android and Telegram Stars in the Telegram version) | Sign-in with Google or Telegram |
What data is used
The details are in the privacy policy; here is what matters most.
- Steps and activity. Wayfare reads steps, distance and active calories from the device sensor and from Health Connect. This data is needed only to show you your own activity. I don't use it for advertising and I don't share it with third parties.
- Health Connect. You can revoke access at any time in Health Connect settings, and the app will keep working with the sensor.
- Location. Only in modes with live speed, such as cycling, and only while the app is open. Coordinates are calculated on your device and are not uploaded; only distance and speed go to the server.
- Account. Wayfare and Trailforge have no name, email or registration. If you sign in with Google, your email is stored on the site. From Telegram, only the numeric ID is stored.
- Other apps. Trailforge receives your steps only after you connect it yourself, and you can revoke access in your profile.
- Deletion. You can delete your activity data or the whole account in the app, and the site has account deletion.
Forum and automatic translation
Everything you post on the forum is visible to everyone, together with your nickname. So that topics can be read in other languages, the text of titles and messages may be sent for automatic translation to Anthropic, an AI provider in the US. Only the text is sent, without your name, nickname or account, and the translation is stored on our side next to the original. If you don't want some text processed this way, don't post it on the forum.
What I don't promise
These items are not plans and not hints. They don't exist, and I won't promise them.
- Wayfare: no weather, widgets or walk planning. It's a simple pedometer: goals, streak, statistics, heatmap.
- Trailforge: no quick leveling to the maximum. The top rank is designed for roughly two-plus years of walking, and I won't present it as anything else.
- GridCraft: no real time. The game checks for moves by polling every three seconds, so a small delay is normal.
- Loot: I don't write "will drop" or "guaranteed" about anything that depends on chance.
How Trailforge shows crafting odds
In the Forge, the odds of the result are visible before you spend anything. Not after, not in a help page on another screen, but right where you make the decision. Crafting in this game is meant to be a calculation, not a lottery with hidden conditions. If you feel the numbers aren't shown clearly enough, write to me, I want to know.
Website and cookies
The stepforge.pro site has no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers. It does have technical ones: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and protects forms, and a cookie with your chosen interface language. You can manage them in your browser settings, but without the session cookie you won't be able to sign in to your account.
What isn't here
I deliberately don't write how many users we have and I don't quote ratings: you couldn't verify my words against those numbers anyway. So I try to write only what you can check yourself in the app or in the policy. If you find a mismatch between this text and what you see on screen, that's my mistake, and I want to fix it.
